4. Report
This drill was held as part of a Comprehensive Earthquake Drill conducted by Arakawa Ward in Tokyo, using an LG-IAA System developed jointly by Sun Microsystems K.K. and Blue Box Japan Co., Ltd. The drill was held in conjunction with training for the registration of residents' safety confirmation information.
The LG-IAA System is the first system of its kind to be constructed in Japan. It enables users to easily register safety confirmation information by inputting the current status of a disaster victim along with simple comments. This is accomplished using disaster victim information that has been registered in advance on a multi-application IC card (JavaCard).
At the drill venue, the proceedings were conducted by groups from the neighborhood associations for the various districts of No. 2 Hateta Elementary School. The proceedings began with a general explanation of the drill, followed by training in the registration and search of safety confirmation information. The IAA Alliance provided an explanation of its own organization' s activities through a video presentation related to the IAA System created at CRL, and by answering questions from visitors who had participated in the drill.
In part because the LG-IAA System was publicized as the first system of its kind in Japan, this drill was given extensive press coverage by TV and radio stations, as well as by newspapers, magazines, and other print media. This provided ample opportunity to explain the position of the IAA Alliance and its connection with this particular drill. It is safe to say that this event brought about extremely significant effects in terms of PR activities for the IAA Alliance.
Following are the main news reports containing information reported in the media, including reports prior to the event.
