4. Progress Report
On March 11, 2003, the CRL Information and Network Systems Division Emergency Communications Group received a request from the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications with regard to the increasing political tension in Iraq. The Ministry asked whether it would be possible, as part of contribution efforts, to use an IAA System for Iraq to confirm the safety of Japanese persons living outside of the country (living in and around Iraq). Upon receiving this request, the Emergency Communications Group decided to begin operation of an IAA System for Iraq, in collaboration with the IAA Alliance.
The IAA System for Iraq began operations on March 20, 2003. Following is a record of the total number of registrations and searches as of March 31, 2003, at 6:00 p.m.
